13_Doric vs Ionic.jpg
ARCHITECTURE - Doris vs. Ionic - GREECE
BASIC components of both:
1.Column & entablature (function as post and lintel).
2.Columns have a shaft(vertical) & a capital (top); and may have a base (bottom).
3.Stylobate - floor.
4.Stereobate - levels below floor.
DORIC ONLY: fluted shafts;no base on columns;entablature with architrave, frieze of triglyphs & metopes; cornice.
IONIC ONLY: more elongated columns with bases;distinctive voluted capitals;NO triglyphs or metopes (frieze is continuous);flutes are deeper and closer together with flat surfaces in between called fillets.
Treasury buildings are always Ionic.
