DESCRIPTION: Ornamental Page from Gospel book. 7th century - parchment - ENGLAND. Beautiful manuscripts, especially gospels, rested on the altars of church during the Middle Ages and were produced by monks in SCRIPTORIA. Uses CELTIC GERMANIC INTERLACEMENT. These designs were often inspired by metalwork like the Sutton Hoo treasure (see slide #1).
