DESCRIPTION: PORTRAIT SCULPTURE - Marble - 3rd century CE - Rome. Phillipus was Soldier Emperor. Rose through the ranks thru shrewdness, cleverness and guile. Became emperor by killing emperor. Sculptor gave him "stubble" to look rugged. Eyes "follow" you because of technique sculptor used: he dug out a concave spot where the pupil is.
