Manhattan - 24" x 30" x 1-1/2" - Oil on Canvas
An early abstract work. Apologies to Mondrian's "Broadway Boogie Woogie." It's really very un-like that work, but still has a loose grid-like approach to describing the city that never sleeps (Mondrian's grid was very precise, never using diagonals and used primary colors). I just wanted to explore the application of paint on canvas and truth is, I didnt know what I was painting when I started. I just put brush to canvas and began. Then the energy, movement, dynamism and complexity of Manhattan began to emerge. So I went with it. I hope viewers make their own connections visually, and thus formulate many unique interpretations of the same elements.
