Into the Blue - Oil on Canvas - 16" x 20" x 3/4"
Inspired totally by Jamie Wyeth's "Iris at Sea." This, however, really was the turret on our rented Victorian summer house in Maine, although I left off the clapboard siding of the house to create the question, "Is it a house or a lighthouse?", and we really did have flowers below. The exaggerated perspective creates a strong presence reaching high into the blue (bringing to mind my mother's favorite quote: "Not failure but low aim's the crime.") I was experimenting with a different kind of light quality -- one suggesting the deep blue of evening and the light of the moon rather than daytime. Did I achieve it? Hell if I know. Maybe. What do you think?
