TITLE: Gone Sailing - Oil on Canvas - 16" x 24" x 3/4"

DESCRIPTION: The chair is empty but so is the boat. Did the person leave the chair to go sailing? If so, where is he/she? It's kind of a surrealist concept a la Rene Magritte (again, with apologies). For me, it's the depiction of spirit rather than flesh -- when a person's spirit has been so moved by the awesome beauty of nature they are literally "carried away" for awhile. Also, more simply and on the technical/experimental side, I was exploring the use of complementary colors (reddish pink chair and green ground; orange sail with blue water; and pale yellow boat with pale violet stripe).
