Change, Interchange and Relief - Acrylic on canvas - 60" x 60" x 2"
The inspiration for this 5' x 5' painting came directly from my series of works on paper (Rives BFK 20"x20"). I began each work on paper by embossing a single 10" square using a Conrad press. I was taken with this elegantly quiet, raised square, and became interested in pursuing how it might be engaged in multiple ways using an abstract, minimalist approach and a limited color palette. My works on paper had undergone changes in surface through a pressure or force exerted on them. I wanted my painting to express that. This painting investigates change, interchange and relief by exploiting the interchange of circles giving to and receiving from one another, as well their relationship with the "raised" square in the center.
