I/WE: case studies
photo and video
Five artists at SCAD Atlanta – Susie Berta, Jenna Pearcy, Halley Semo, Hayley Thie, and Lindsay Woodward – investigated themes of duality and questions of identity. Functioning within the collective “we,” each artist explored concepts unique to her own work.
- Georgia artist Susie Berta used abstract exploration of a personal narrative to highlight the universal needs common to otherwise diverse individuals.
- Georgia native Jenna Pearcy fused the individual and collective, creating a sense of conditional reality in her water-based abstract works.
- Raised in Ohio, artist Halley Semo explored the figure, with a particular interest in how it houses a person’s identity.
- Atlanta-based artist Hayley Thie examined the intimacy of gaze, as it relates to inner and outer worlds.
- Maine native Lindsay Woodward questioned ideas of permanence and necessity, inspired by her interest in historic preservation.
