DESCRIPTION: CHRISTOPHER WREN. Classical Style and Italian Renaissance Style. Wren later than Jones (slide #1). Wren dominates Baroque architecture now. Genius, astronomer. Bernini convinced him to become an architect. London fire in 1666 destroyed central London. Wren designed 50 bldgs. in London, including St. Paul's. Based on St. Peter's except this is on small lot, and it got the towers St. Peter's never got c/o ground under St. Peter's was sinking and wouldn't support towers. It has Ital. Renaissance DOME like Michelangelo's at St. Peter's. King wanted church in "a good Roman manner." (London once a part of Roman Empire).
