DESCRIPTION: CONSTABLE. Great Romantic landscape / clouds painter. Born Stour River Valley - placid beautiful. Inspired to be a painter by Claude Lorraine's "Hagar & Ishmael" landscape w little figures. Many sketches in books now in London museums. Wivenhoe Park was a commission = hired to live there & paint Estate of Gen Francis Rebow. Once done he could marry Maria. Married 13 yrs, 7 children. He was happy, stable. Clouds are dramatic. He'd be known later for cloud paintings.
