DESCRIPTION: by HALS. Category: PORTRAITURE. Portrait of lady who is not quite 'right', who was a tavern feature. Hals known for bright white slashes - see pewter tankard and collar - and for STOP ACTION (Captures her in the midst of action, laughing, liike Bernini's David (see Baroque Italy #12) and Caravaggio's Lizard Boy (see Baroque Italy #18). This was certainly not a commission. He used it as an exercise to experiment with his art.
