TITLE: Madonna Enthroned w Angels & Prophets. GIOTTO DI BONDONE. Italy. 1310. ITALIAN GOTHIC.

DESCRIPTION: Third enthroned Madonna we've seen (see #10 and #11). Tempera on wood. Gabled like Neo Byzantine but she is not so linear, though. GIOTTO'S trying to develop volume/depth by OVERLAPPING faces and halos. She's set inside to emphasize spatial depth. GIOTTO was first to put expression on sacred figures (important in the development of Renaissance).
