DESCRIPTION: Baptistry of Florence Cathedral - 4th century. Exterior dates from Romanesque period with classical Roman arches and elements that look early renaissance. DOORS ARE GATES OF PARADISE BY GHIBERTI. Andrea Pisano from Pisa won Medici's competition for BRONZE DOORS (south doors not shown here). 28 door panels had scenes set in quatrefoils based on life of John the Baptist (San Giovanni).
