DESCRIPTION: Brunelleschi won this contest. Architectural / engineering wonder. Invented construction equipment to build it. Dome is 140' wide. Starts 180' off the ground and is 100' high. There's a DOUBLE DOME: underneath is 16 ribs; outside is 8 ribs. Masonry between stone ribs. Wooden beams. Invented PORTHOLES like Basilican clerestory windows to allow light. Built the top piece to hold ribs down. BRUNELLESCHI INVENTED LINEAR PERSPECTIVE.
