PAINTING - Tribute Money - EARLY ITALIAN RENAISSANCE
Fresco in Brancacci Chapel by MASACCIO. Narrative tells entire story. Christ & disciples want to go thru toll booth. Christ tells Peter to get coin out of fish's mouth. Peter gets coin out of fish. They pay at toll booth. There were 3 GREAT GENIUSES of Italian Renaissance: 1.Brunelleschi 2.Donatello 3.Masaccio. MASACCIO INVENTED: 1.PAINTER'S AERIAL PERSPECTIVE: color less saturated & objects less sharp the farther away they are. 2.SINGLE LIGHT SOURCE:light coming from specific source creates highlites / shadows on left side of objects/people. Masaccio's figures had more open stances and looked more natural (opposite from Berlinghieri's rigidly closed figures).
