ARCHITECTURE - Villa Rotunda - HIGH RENAISSANCE in VENICE
by PALLADIO. House outside VENICE owned by monsignor. Built for entertainment. Rotunda in center; 4 equal classical facades facing ea. compass point. Structure is important c/o it will trigger correct ARTICULATED ARCHITECTURE (AKA CORRECT CLASSICISM). For ex: Thom. Jefferson will refer to this villa when building Monticello; antebellum homes did it too and called it PALLADIAN ARCHITECTURE. BTW,Venice, Florence & Rome had diff. objectives: VENICE - focused on pleasure and good life. FLORENCE - focused on the scientific and intellectual; ROME - focused on monuments and the philosophical.
