DESCRIPTION: DAUMIER. Intent: SOCIAL/POLITICAL COMMENTARY - CRITICISM of civil/social unrest in France in 1860's. Daumier was lithographer for newspaper. Photographs not able to be put on same page as newsprint until later invention of half-tone press. So they used lithographs. Daumier produced 1 lithograph a day for newspaper for decades.
