DESCRIPTION: by DAVID. Huge painting. David commissioned to be at coronation. Took copious sketches and color notes. Returned to studio and took 4 years to paint. Every face a portrait c/o he had people come to studio to sit. Exception: Napoleon's mother is in painting and she was never at the ceremony. Napoleon wore laurel wreath, gold "Laureate" = victor. David employed scene painters from opera to paint background scenery. Finished 1807. Napoleon loved it. Tour de force.
