French Rococo Style
Rococo style began w French ARCHITECTURAL decoration during Louis XIV and continued after his death. Versailles was abandoned & people built elegant "hotels" (aristocratic townhouses) in Paris. Everything scaled for smaller rooms or "salons". Upper class, fashionable. Rococo PAINTING was lighthearted, happy, stunningly beautiful, lighter colors, all for decoration and entertainment of aristocrats, not for social or religious comment.
