DESCRIPTION: DELACROIX. HISTORY PAINTING. Influenced as a boy by GERICAULT & Medusa Raft. Also influenced by CONSTABLE. When he saw Constable's work The Hay Wain (see Eng. Romantic #2) he beefed up his colors in this painting. Delacroix had RUBENESQUE STYLE: dramatic composition, colorful figures in action, influenced by chaos & turmoil in rubens paintings, lots of diagonals. Massacre is episode in Greek war for independence & Turks massacred people.
