DESCRIPTION: by ZURBARAN. St. Serapion was 13th cent. mercenarian of Spanish order who rescued Christian prisoners of Spanish Wars. He offered himself in exchange, and was executed. Little piece of paper identifies him (like Ghirlandaio's Giovanna Tornabuoni - see Early Ren. #37). Stark chiarascuro.
